Open Up to Physics: Discover the Invisible World – Open Day at the Silesian University of Technology

March 22, 2024 | Gliwice

The Institute of Physics at the Silesian University of Technology opened its doors for a day of science, curiosity, and hands-on learning. Visitors from local schools and the general public were invited to experience how fascinating and accessible physics can be.

Held at the university’s Center for Science and Education in Gliwice, the event aimed to showcase the vital role physics plays in understanding the world around us — and in shaping the technology of tomorrow.

A Look Inside the Event

From 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM, the Institute transformed into a buzzing hub of experiments, workshops, and live demonstrations. Students and researchers guided attendees through exhibits on light, sound, radiation, and magnetism, using everyday language to explain even the most complex phenomena.

Participants could try their hand at building simple scientific tools, explore how magnetic fields affect materials, or observe real-time measurements with modern lab equipment.

One highlight was the interactive session on “invisible” physical forces — showing how what we can’t see still governs much of what we experience daily. The event perfectly balanced education with entertainment, making science fun, relatable, and inspiring.

Support for Science Education

The Open Day was held under the project “The Power of Physics – Discovering the Invisible World”, co-financed by Poland’s Ministry of Education and Science as part of its “Social Responsibility of Science II – Popularization of Science” program.
